Canon Gordillo, as he is better known, was a clergyman and Spanish deputy in the Cortes de Cádiz, and is another of the most illustrious and renowned of the people born in Guía. He was a political figure of great importance in the history of the Canary Islands as a member of the Cortes de Cádiz, where the first Spanish constitution was approved in 1812.

He was born in Guía in 1773 and it was here in his hometown that he studied and spent his childhood, later moving to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he was educated under the tutelage of the illustrious historian and naturalist José Viera y Clavijo.

He was a member of the Cortes de Cádiz in 1812, being one of the politicians who approved the first Spanish constitution, and president of the Cortes in 1813.

Apart from his political facet, he also stood out for his solid education and intellectuality, taking a very active part in the society of the time. His eagerness to enable the ports of the Canary Islands to be used for traffic.
